The speed and demands of modern society can be very stressful and overwhelming. The Meditation Chambers attempt to counteract this problem by providing a portable, private environment free of visual and audio clutter to faciliate rest and relaxation.
If your mind is quiet and at ease, this calm will be reflected in your body. Using an array of force sensing resistors, Dan Albritton and I built a platform that sensed body movements. This platform connects to an interactive visualization that is projected onto the chamber to help maintain/develop concentration.
The second iteration focuses on sensing heartbeat as the assistive technology. Using a handheld 'mudra orb' embedded with copper contacts, a user's heartbeat is sent to a midi dimmer that pulses soothing lights to aid concentration and relaxation.
I talk about my inspirations, prototyping, user-testing and the effectiveness of the Meditation Chambers in real world environments.
